Atmosphere – Camera Thief

So much new music! This is the first track off Atmosphere’s new album, Southsiders. A lot of my favorite Atmosphere songs have one hook or one sample that I find mesmerizing. In this case, it’s that muffled guitar/synth sound. I don’t know what makes it, but I can’t get enough. Advertisements

Lykke Li – Gunshot Lykke Li’s much anticipate new album, I Never Learn, came out yesterday. It is super dramatic, dreamy, and beautiful. On first listen, this song is the star. It has a distinct ’80’s Madonna feel, maybe even with a little influence from The The. Really really great.

Jennifer Hudson – Walk It Out (Featuring Timbaland)

Timbaland has a magic touch, especially working with pop-soul artists like Justin Timberlake and Jennifer Hudson. Maybe this is a guilty pleasure song, but it’s a pleasure, and that’s what matters.

Curtis Harding – Beautiful People

The new soul movement is such a wonderful thing. I just learned about Curtis Harding today. This particular song has some of the reverbing (no way that’s a word) vocals of The Black Keys, but a more intense soul feeling, like Bobby Blue Bland or Curtis Mayfield.

Jessica Lea Mayfield – Oblivious

And finally, “Oblivious” off of Jessica Lea Mayfield’s incredible new album, Make My Head Sing. I love every song on this album, but this one especially. It’s the first song and it just knocks you on your ass from the start.

The Peach Kings – Hold On

Next, deep bass driven rock from the Peach Kings. Intense and echoing, kind of like Cat Power. Just beautiful.

Little Dragon – Let It Go

I’ve been in a (new music) rut recently, for whatever reason, but in the last day I’ve realized that three of my favorite artists have recently put out music. I’ve been hitting repeat a lot. First, new from Little Dragon. Dreamy electro-pop topped with the beautiful, almost 90’s R&B voice of Yukimi Nagano.
